THE CARD
Call Our number Record Status Rams under 11.5 wins 69.7 → 95.9 (93.9 on the arithmetic at a flat .65 per game, named below; +2.0 net in bounded steps) LAR 2–4 from 2–4, the over needs 10–1 The grade: L 16–18 vs Arizona (Sunday, Oct 18), closed +13.5 — the largest upset of the season. The instrument: Arizona's first-and-10 rushes gained four or more yards 8 times in 17, 47%, below the 55% bar — no step; it stays live for Las Vegas (+3.0). Next: at Las Vegas, Sunday, Oct 25, 4:25pm ET — pre-computed: a win puts the number at 93.4, a loss at 98.7 and the card into maintenance. If Nacua is inactive Sunday, add 0.6.
Six field goals and a kickoff tackle
Arizona scored no touchdowns, went 0-for-5 inside the twenty, and won. It ran 35 times for 120 yards, held the ball for 34:52, and let Chad Ryland kick: 34, 30, 22, 38, 27, and — after the Rams had gone 86 yards in two minutes to lead 16–15 with 47 seconds left — 43 yards as time expired. The yardage for that last kick was a 21-yard completion plus fifteen yards of unnecessary roughness on cornerback Josh Wallace, which put Arizona at the Los Angeles 29 with 41 seconds on the clock; three runs gained four yards and the clock ran to zero. Four straight Rams games have now been decided on the last play. Sean McVay afterward: "collectively, even if we had come away with the result, it's not good enough… it starts with me."
The kicker is the story the box score hides. Blake Grupe — signed Wednesday, Oct 14, the "new snap-hold-kick operation" this desk priced at +0.4 — made a 44-yarder nine minutes into the game and tore his right ACL making the tackle on his own kickoff. With no kicker, Los Angeles went for two after its first touchdown and failed, ran out the first-half clock with 46 seconds left — McVay: "We didn't have a field goal operation… If we had a kicker healthy, then that would've changed the approach" — went for it on fourth-and-one at the Arizona 27 in the third quarter and gained nothing, and let punter Ethan Evans kick the go-ahead extra point, the first placekick of his professional career. Brandon McManus signed Tuesday, Oct 20, the third Rams kicker in three weeks, for a special-teams unit that entered the game on pace for the worst season on record.
The instrument read below the bar and stays as written. Arizona ran 17 times on first-and-10; eight gained four yards or more, 47% against the 55% bar, computed three ways from the play-by-play. No step. The desk notes what the reading did and did not say: Arizona won by running 35 times and holding the ball, not by bursting through first down, and the instrument measures burst. It was pre-committed to measure exactly that, and it will be read the same way in Las Vegas. Stafford's attempt count, 33, did not fire either.
The arithmetic, and the correction
From 2–4 with eleven games left, the over needs 10–1. Riccardo assigns the roster a flat .65 chance per game — he calls it "a steelman assumption that gives them the benefit of the doubt against the bottom-feeders" — which makes ten-and-one or better a 6.1% event and the under 93.9. The convention is printed because the desk made him choose it: his own game-by-game assignments, which gave Los Angeles no better than 75% against anyone and 20% at San Francisco, would have priced the under at 99.5. One number is the model. He kept the conservative base and struck the table, and the base is named here so the next revision cannot rediscover it.
Then the steps, each bounded and dated. Davante Adams, a ruptured hamstring tendon, out six to ten weeks, earliest return Thanksgiving eve: +1.5. Poona Ford, a ruptured triceps, out for the season, and Kobie Turner, injured reserve, minimum four games — the interior of a defensive line that just watched Arizona lean on it for 35 minutes: +1.2. Nate Landman, the leading tackler Sunday, out with a concussion: +0.2, expiring after Las Vegas. The kicker: the +0.4 is void and replaced with +0.3 for the unit as it exists, less 0.15 for McManus's Green Bay record, which arrived in the steelman round and was genuinely new. And the correction. Alaric Jackson's two-game suspension for punching Bradley Chubb was cut to one game on appeal, announced Wednesday, Oct 14 at 7:38pm ET, before this letter's last issue published. We printed "two games, exactly the Arizona and Las Vegas games," and priced +2.1 for it. He served the one game — David Quessenberry started at left tackle and Arizona attacked that side — and he plays Sunday. The pack was stale by hours and the desk owns it; the step is refunded by half, −1.05. Final: 95.9. One more entry for the record: in the steelman round Riccardo also priced −0.10 for "a concrete December timeline" on Myles Garrett. No timeline exists — McVay said this week the practice window is not open — so it was struck as the fifth time a number on this card moved on the sound of the opposing brief.
No book lists 11.5 any more. DraftKings relisted the Rams at 9.5 wins (Over +108 / Under −136, as ESPN reported it Tuesday); ESPN's model projects 8.4 wins while still rating the roster seventh in the league; Polymarket prices "more than 11.5 wins" at 11.5¢ on four thousand dollars of volume, the only live print on the card's line. The Super Bowl price that was +750 when this desk was told a tournament ceiling does not pay the weekly rent is +1100 at Bovada tonight.
